Anuradhapura – Western Monasteries (Tapovanaya)

This Monastery was founded in the western side of the city close to the Cemetery. They collected rags from the dead used for wrapping them, washed and dyed them and used as their robes. De to this reason they were known as Pansakulika Bhikkhus.

The buildings are very simple ones without any decoration and the only decorations were in the toilets / urinals.

These types of buildings are called double-platform buildings.
