Kandy (Degaldoruwa Temple)

This Cave Temple contains the best-preserved paintings of the Kandyan period in a cave on a rock 40 feet in height. King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe (1747-1781 A.D.) had used this while the work of the Galmaduwa Temple was going on and later had decided to enlarge the cave and make it a Temple with paintings.

There is a large seated Buddha statue in the Viharaya and large number of paintings in the cave. Devaragampola Silwat a renowned artist monk was responsible for the paintings.
